Armenia
On the map next to hundreds of large and powerful countries, a small country called Armenia has found a place for itself. This ancient mountainous country located high enough from sea level in South Caucasus resembles the paradise. They say once the lost paradise used to be here. This heavenly place with its centuries-old history was the first to adopt Christianity as a state religion. Most of the people profess the Armenian Apostolic Church and are as proud and unbending as their mountains, but at the same time hospitable and open-hearted. Armenian alphabet created in 405 seems to be a divine scripture by its uniqueness and originality and had a major role in preserving the national identity. Armenian language became the magic key to the historical past and eternity. Armenia is bordered by Georgia, Iran, Azerbaijan and Turkey.
Armenia has diverse sights with cultural and historical, religious and environmental importance. The homeland of our ancestry with three million population is rich in forests full of flowers, gorgeous color palette, emerald green, hills and cold streams, mountains and valleys, rivers, lakes, fertile soil and delicious fruit.
Armenia is famous for its historical and cultural monuments among which are monastery ensembles built at different times, with wonderful architectural solutions and luxurious embellishment such as Tatev monastery, Noravank, Haghpat monastery complex, Geghard, Haghartsin, etc. There are many resorts and health-centers in Dilijan, Hankavan, Arzni, Jermuk, Tsaghkadzor, Stepanavan and other regions. Armenian cross-stones occupy a unique place in Christian culture and their number reaches several thousand. Etchmiadzin is the center of the Armenian Apostolic Church, Etchmiadzin Cathedral was built in the early fourth century and is one of the oldest churches in the world. One of the oldest sights of Armenia is the temple of Garni, a symbol of Armenian pagan culture. Armenia is the only country that has more than 3,000 years old history in the map of Armenian Highlands and Anatolia. The capital city of Yerevan is one of the world’s oldest and beautiful cities with diversity of sights, museums, galleries, gardens and parks, ancient and modern architectural monuments, hotels, outdoor cafés and restaurants. In the past it was called a “pink city” because pink tuff was the most used in Yerevan for buildings. Matenadaran, a repository of ancient manuscripts, where the world-known Armenian manuscripts and masterpieces of Armenian miniatures are presented, stands in the center of Yerevan. In Yerevan on Arin-Berd hill Erebuni fortress built in BC 782 is situated. Singing fountains of the Republic Square, Alexander Spendiarian Opera and Ballet National Academic Theatre and other places of interest make the city more beautiful.
Armenia is a unique country and Holy Mount Ararat looks kindly at Armenia from under its snowy eyebrows and admires this eternal emerald paradise.
